WHO OFFICIALS SUGGEST POSTPONING DENTAL VISITS DURING PANDEMIC: Officials from the World Health Organization hold a briefing on the latest developments of the global coronavirus outbreak. There are over 20.6 million coronavirus cases around the world and at least 750,429 people have died, according to Johns Hopkins. This week, the WHO announced that it recommends postponing annual dental visits due to the ongoing pandemic. The new guidance states that oral health care teams ‘are at high risk of being infected with SARS-CoV-2 or passing the infection to patients’ due to procedures that ‘involve face-to-face communication and frequent exposure to saliva, blood, and other body fluids and handling sharp instruments.’ This recommendation follows the CDC’s update to their guidelines that recommends elective check-ups and surgeries should be postponed.
