Coronavirus outbreak: WHO warns that the world on the verge of reaching 100,000 cases | FULL

Speaking at a COVID-19 update press conference on Friday, the World Health Organization (WHO) Director General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesu said more than 2000 cases were reported yesterday from 47 countries and territories around the world.

He added that WHO continues to recommend all countries make containment their highest priority as there are now more than 3000 confirmed deaths of the virus globally.

China reported 143 new cases Friday, the same as a day earlier and about one-third what the country was seeing a week ago. Just a month ago, China was reporting several thousand new cases a day, outnumbering infections elsewhere in the world about 120 to 1.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also started the press conference by acknowledging International Women’s Day, upcoming on Sunday March 8. He said it’s a moment to remember that around the world many women still can’t access essential health services and continue to suffer from preventable and treatable diseases.
