The streets of the central Chinese city of Wuhan, the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak, appeared almost deserted with just a few businesses still operating on Sunday, as the city remains under lockdown.

Footage obtained by Ruptly shows one of the markets being closed with few shops being open and almost deserted streets.

The city was put under lockdown on January 23 in an attempt to prevent further spreading of the newly discovered virus.

According to the latest report by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), the novel coronavirus has claimed more than 1,600 lives and infected more than 69,000 worldwide.
